MSCF Hosts 2025 Panel for Women in Data Science Pittsburgh
The Impact of Cyclical Administration Changes on the Quantitative Finance Industry
The MSCF Women’s Panel, held on March 13 at the MSCF New York City location, and broadcast back to Pittsburgh, was an inspiring event that brought together leading women in quantitative finance to share their career journeys, discuss industry challenges, and explore emerging trends. Hosted by the MSCF Women in Quant Finance Club in celebration of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month, in conjuction with Women in Data Science Pittsburgh, the event featured a distinguished panel moderated by Catherine Monk, Executive Director of US Rates Trading at Morgan Stanley. The panelists included Natalya Dmitriyeva (Schonfeld), Kelly Wang (Bank of America), and Kathryn Zhao (Cantor Fitzgerald). These accomplished professionals offered invaluable insights on navigating the complexities of financial markets, leveraging AI in decision-making, and adapting to an evolving regulatory landscape.
Attendees gained firsthand perspectives on the effects of foreign policy uncertainties, developments in the cryptocurrency market, and the role of data in shaping investment strategies. A key focus of the discussion was the intersection of technology and finance, especially in areas like AI-driven stock selection and the expansion of electronic trading into cryptocurrencies. The panelists shared their experiences adapting trading platforms to increased market volatility, addressing liquidity challenges in crypto, and responding to shifts in client behavior driven by macroeconomic trends.
Thoughtful audience questions enriched the conversation, creating a dynamic and collaborative atmosphere. The event not only highlighted the expertise and leadership of these women in quantitative finance but also served as a valuable networking opportunity for MSCF students and alumni to connect with industry leaders. Overall, the panel was a resounding success, underscoring the importance of diverse perspectives in shaping the future of finance.
